Key dates for the 2022-23 NHL season
NHL opening night is Friday October 7, 2022
The NHL kick’s off with the 2022 NHL Global Series in Prague, Czech Republic, with a matchup between the Nashville Predators and San Jose Sharks.
Official NHL opening night is Tuesday, October 11, 2022
The season opens in North American with a double header. The Eastern Conference opens with the New York Rangers taking on the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Western Conference opens with the LA Kings taking on the Vegas Golden Knights.
2023 NHL Winter Classic
The 2023 Winter Classic will be played on January 2, 2023 at Fenway Park between the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins.
2023 All-Star game
The NHL All-Star weekend will be held on February 3-4, 2023 that will be hosted by the Florida Panthers.
The NHL Skills Competition will take place on February 3, followed by the All-Star Game on February 4.
2023 Stadium Series
The 2023 Stadium Series will be played on February 18, 2023 at at NC State’s Carter-Finley Stadium between the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals.
NHL Trade Deadline 2023
With everything getting back to normal this NHL season, the NHL trade deadline will be on Friday March 3, 2023.
End of the 2023 NHL Regular Season
The NHL season ends on April 13th, 2023 and will feature 30 of the 32 teams in game action.
Start of the 2023 NHL Playoffs
To be determined, but it is looking like the first NHL playoff game for 2023 will be on Monday April 17, 2023.
NHL Awards 2023
Nashville will host the 2023 NHL Awards on June 26, 2023. The is no word on what venue with be hosting the NHL Awards 2023 edition.
NHL Draft 2023
The NHL Draft 2023 edition will be hosted by the Nashville Predators on June 28th and 29th, 2023 at Bridgestone Arena.

Pre-COVID NHL free agency always opened on July 1. We are still waiting on official word when free agent frenzy will begin for 2023.
