The Florida Panthers will be looking to add a right shot top-four defenceman at the NHL trade deadline after Aaron Ekblad broke his leg and is out a minimum of 12 weeks.

The Panthers now join the Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets all looking for a top-four Dman at the trade deadline.

Who could the Panthers target? Dan Rosen from NHL.com suggests Florida targets Buffalo Sabres defenseman Brandon Montour, a pending unrestricted free agent after the season, is a right-hand shot who can play on the power play.

Other option for the Panthers are  David Savard of the Columbus Blue Jackets and Sami Vatanen of the New Jersey Devils. Each can become an unrestricted free agent after the season.

If the Panthers are looking to take a risk they can target Tony DeAngelo who is a right-shot defenseman and a power-play specialist.

With the devastating injury to Ekblad, the Panthers will be working the phones to find a player to fill the void for Ekblad and hopefully have a long playoff run.

  1. Panthers have dealt with “problem” players before (IE: Mike Hoffman) so De Angelo shouldn’t be much different…………..Yandle could be a great teacher for him. And I’m a Ranger fan.
