It appears the Calgary Flames are ready to move on from forward Andrei Kuzmenko. After a promising start to his NHL career with the Vancouver Canucks, Kuzmenko’s production has plummeted since joining the Flames.
Insider: Time to Sell Low on Andrei Kuzmenko
NHL insider Frank Seravalli suggests the Flames may be looking to cut their losses and trade Kuzmenko while they still can. His recent performance has been a far cry from the 39-goal season he put up with the Canucks just two years ago.
“It’s a head-scratcher,” Seravalli commented. “He looked like a budding star in Vancouver, but something just hasn’t clicked in Calgary. At this point, they may need to sell low and hope a change of scenery can reignite his game.”
Kuzmenko’s struggles have been evident this season. He has just 10 points in 32 games and has been a healthy scratch on several occasions. This is a significant drop from the 25 points he tallied in 29 games with the Flames last season.
Seravalli believes a non-playoff team might be willing to take a chance on Kuzmenko, hoping to unlock his potential and gain a better understanding of his capabilities. For a team looking to the future, the risk may be worth the potential reward.
This situation raises questions about what went wrong for Kuzmenko in Calgary. Was it a system mismatch? A lack of chemistry with his linemates? Or simply a case of a player struggling to adjust to a new environment?
Whatever the reason, it seems clear that a change of scenery may be the best option for both Kuzmenko and the Flames. It will be interesting to see where he lands and if he can recapture the magic he displayed during his rookie season.
