Cale Makar not eligible to play for Team Canada
NHL players Cale Makar, Carter Hart, Jordan Kyrou, Robert Thomas not eligible to play for Team Canada in international tournaments.

If the Colorado Avalanche are bounced in the first round of the 2023 NHL playoffs superstar defenseman Cale Makar will not be eligible to play at the World Hockey Championships.

With the continuing investigation of the 2018 World Junior team Canada hockey team over an alleged group sexual assault claim, no players from that team are eligible to play on the national team.

This means no players can play at the 2023 World Hockey Championships and if the investigation takes not months but years it means players like Makar, Robert Thomas, Jordan Kyrou, Carter Hart will not be eligible for a best on best hockey tournament that could happen in 2024.

“Earlier this year, Hockey Canada made a decision that until the investigation and adjudicative process of the alleged incident in 2018 are complete, no players from the 2018 National Junior Team will be considered for participation for Team Canada.

What are fans saying about the Team Canada 2018 World Junior ban?

There are players who weren’t even in London that weekend. Although maybe none of those had a shot anyway. Hockey Canada knows who was in the room and who took part in the s*x. Just release their names. Every player will be under a cloud. Not fair to them.

Hard to imagine keeping Cale Makar off the roster when he was in another country

I’d be real mad if I was a player not involved at all but was on the team…
