1927: Bill Gadsby is Born
Bill Gadsby, born in Calgary, began his NHL career at 19 with the Chicago Blackhawks in 1946. Throughout his 20-season career, Gadsby played for the Blackhawks, New York Rangers, and Detroit Red Wings. Known for his defensive prowess, Gadsby was an eight-time NHL All-Star and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1970.
1947: Ken Dryden is Born
Ken Dryden, born in Hamilton, Ontario, had a remarkable but brief NHL career, primarily with the Montreal Canadiens. Joining the Canadiens in the 1970-71 season, Dryden played a pivotal role in six Stanley Cup victories. He won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in 1971 and the Calder Trophy as the top rookie in 1972. Dryden retired in 1979 with an impressive record, including five Vezina Trophies. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1983 and was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in 2017.
