Torey Krug rumors
NHL trade rumors for October 1, 2022 feature Torey Krug. Will the St. Louis Blues trade the defenceman to free up cap space?

It was a busy offseason for the St. Louis Blues with the team signing young forwards Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou to long-term eight year deals.

With these signings come questions about the salary cap and how management can free up the Blues salary cap space to re-sign captain Ryan O’Reilly.

What rumors are being floated about a Torey Krug trade?

Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post Dispatch reports in July during free agent frenzy Torey Krug’s name was being floated around in the NHL rumor mill.

With Blues management knowing they would be spending over $16 million on new contracts to Thomas and Kyrou, they wanted to see if there would be any interest in Krug as he has another 5 years left on his contract with a $6.25 million cap hit.

The Blues know they will be losing Vladimir Tarasenko to free agency but they want to re-sign their captain and the only way that happens if they free up cap space for next summer.

What does Torey Krug have to say about the rumors?

Torey Krug does not seem to be affected by the rumors that were being said about him in the summer.

“When you have a full no-trade clause, you don’t worry about it too much. But that’s part of the business. You’ve been in this league long enough to understand names are being thrown out there.

Even though Krug does have a full no-trade clause it does not mean he can’t be traded or maybe he would like to move on to another team that would make sense for him and his family.

It will be interesting to see what the Blues do this season and if they can re-sign Ryan O’Reilly or if he departs via free agency?
