Everybody knows the Minnesota Wild are in salary cap hell with the buyouts of Zach Parise and Ryan Suter. The Wild will have a max salary cap hit $69.75 million next year instead of $82.5 million because of the buyouts.
Kevin Fiala is a pending RFA and he is having a career year. He has 30 goals and 45 assists for 75 points in 76 games this season.
Michael Russo of The Athletic reports unless the Minnesota Wild trade Matt Dumba to free up the cap space to re-sign Fiala to a long-term deal, it will be impossible to keep him.
Russo went on to say, Fiala will likely seek a $7million-$8 million/year long-term contract and if they Wild can’t find a way to trade Dumba, Fiala will be the one traded this summer.
Earlier this season, the Vancouver Canucks had contacted the Wild about a Fiala trade. Could that be revisited in the summer?
