Chicago Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson has stated that the team will go through a full rebuild to stock pile draft picks and prospects to build a Stanley Cup contender in the future.
Scott Powers of The Athletic reports a source told him that they wouldn’t be shocked if Alex DeBrincat was shopped this summer.
Powers went on to say, those are the types of strategies that usually come with a rebuild. You have to trade good pieces in order to build for the future.
There are rumors that Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews are not happy with the direction of a rebuild but DeBrincat is the best trade asset the team has to bring back a first round draft pick.
The Blackhawks traded their 2022 first round draft pick to the Columbus Blue Jackets in the Seth Jones trade, but it is top two protected.
If the Blackhawks end up keeping their 2022 first round draft pick, they better hope they are decent in 2022/23 season or in the worst case scenario, the Blue Jackets could possibly end up with a #1 overall draft pick and select Connor Bedard.
