Will the Washington Capitals make a trade or sign a free agent

With Henrik Lundqvist announcing he will miss the upcoming season with a heart condition that leaves the Washington Capitals without a veteran goalie to help along Ilya Samsonov.

The free-agent pool is largely picked through, though there are still some veterans out there if experience is desired. Trading for a proven replacement will be difficult at this time, especially considering Washington has so little cap room.

If a trade cannot happen the Capitals can look within their organization by calling up Pheonix Copley or Vitek Vanecek. Both have very little NHL experience and this might not be the best option for the team.

What is most likely to happen is the Caps looking to free agency and signing one of Craig Anderson, Ryan Miller, Cory Schneider or Jimmy Howard. These are not the ideal options, but that is what is left since a trade is very unlikely to happen.
