Will the Pittsburgh Penguins make a Jake Guentzel trade?

Jake Guentzel will be playing on the last year of his current contract, which means the Pittsburgh Penguins can offer Guentzel a contract extension this summer.

Mark Madden of Trib Live reports the Penguins can’t let Guentzel leave after his contract is up and get zero in return.

Madden feels the Penguins need to extend Guentzel this summer and if a deal can’t be worked out, then they must look at making a trade to get some assets in return.

Guentzel’s current Penguins salary cap hit is $6 million and he will be looking for a raise as he is in the prime of his career at 28 years old.

Guentzel will seek a trade this summer. The Penguins will be in full rebuild mode once Crosby, Malkin and Letang retire in two years.
