When Sean Monahan was traded to the Montreal Canadiens last offseason, it was a salary dump for the Calgary Flames so they could sign Nazem Kadri and Jonathan Huberdeau to long-term deals.
The Habs received a first round pick for Monahan and they way he is playing right now, he could fetch a second round pick from a team at the NHL trade deadline.
Will the Montreal Canadiens trade Sean Monahan?
With Sean Monahan fitting so well in the Habs Organization, Pierre LeBrun is reporting Canadiens’ management are having the discussion of should the actually keep Monahan and not trade him? Could he be part of Montreal’s plans moving forward?
LeBrun still feels the Habs will make a Monahan trade as the team is still rebuilding and want to acquire more assets.
It will be interesting to see what Montreal does with Monahan as the NHL trade deadline approaches. They are not too far out of a playoff spot and if they do stay in contention, will they keep him as their own rental?
It was reported a few weeks back that the Colorado Avalanche had an interested in a Sean Monahan trade.
Monahan, 28, is on an expiring $6,375,000 Habs salary cap hit and he does own a 10 team no trade list.
