NHL Trade Rumor chatter in the offseason had the Nashville Predators looking into trading Filip Forsberg at some point this season. Forsberg’s cap hit is reasonably priced at $6 million and he lacks trade protection.

Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reports the Preds and Filip Forsberg are expected to start talks on a contract extension. Forsberg, 27, is completing a six-year deal with a $6 million AVV.

LeBrun went on to say, the Forsberg camp will look at the Gabriel Landeskog deal as a comparable where he signed an eight-year $56 million extension.

Forsberg will likely not accept a deal less than a $8 million AVV and it is believed GM David Poile does not want another $8 million AVV forward on the team. The option really is to re-sign Forsberg to the new deal, trade him at the NHL trade deadline 2022 or trade one of Matt Duchene or Ryan Johansen.
