With NHL free agent frenzy only a month away, NHL rumors are popping up on players who could receive an offer sheet if they are not signed by July 1.
One player that is making the rounds in Montreal Canadiens forward Cole Caufield. Could the Carolina Hurricanes make an offer to mess with the Habs salary cap?

As of right now only 12 teams have the required compensation to offer Cole Caufield less than $10.725m AAV. The compensation package the Habs would receive would be 2 first round picks, 1 second round pick and 1 third round pick.
If the Ducks, Red Wings or Coyotes want to move quicker on their rebuild, they could offer sheet Caufield which if the Habs match, could affect in their attempt to sign Pierre-Luc Dubois.
Darren Dreger was on TSN 590 radio and stated that it is a possibility that Colefield receives an offer sheet but Montreal would match any offer that would come in.
Before his injury, Caufield was on pace for 46 goals & 64 points if he played all 82 games last season.

I love Caufield but his injury last season with a small stature have it’s risk. I am hoping he signs with the Habs in the $8.25 million range.
