The Ottawa Senators are looking to sign Brady Tkachuk to a long-term deal. If no deal is signed soon, will an offer sheet come?

Brady Tkachuk is still unsigned, it was believed a new deal would be signed this week and it has not materialized. NHL Rumors going around have the Sens wanting to sign Tkachuk to a long-term deal.

If a team were to come in with an offer sheet they would have to be prepared to offer Tkachuk a $10 million/year long-term deal for the offer sheet to make sense.

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports, the Senators tabled an eight-year deal worth $8 million per season for Tkachuk, which would be the same salary as top defenceman Thomas Chabot is making. If he’s signed to a lengthy contract, then it’s expected Tkachuk will be named Senators captain.

Garrioch went on to say, if Tkachuk signs a bridge deal, it’s unlikely he’d be named the eighth captain in franchise history. The club would likely go with Chabot.
