Wayne Simmonds
NHL trade rumors for October 17, 2022 feature Wayne Simmonds. Simmonds does not want to be traded and would like to remain a Maple Leaf.

With Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Matt Murray going on injured reserve, the LTIR has given the Leafs some much needed salary cap space as they have recalled Wayne Simmonds, Victor Mete and Nick Robertson.

When the Maple Leafs waived Wayne Simmonds, he was never sent down to Toronto’s AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies.

Leafs Management allowed Simmonds to skate with a satellite group of players at the Scotiabank Arena. They had no intention of pushing Simmonds,34, to the farm team as he had never played for an AHL team.

Why does Wayne Simmonds want to stay with the Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs are Stanley Cup contenders and why would Simmonds want to leave a playoff team to a non contending team?

“I don’t know what’s going to happen (with the lineup), but I’m here for these guys. I’ve poured my heart and soul into this team the past two years and this is where I want to be. I’ll do anything in my power to stay in this organization.”

Will Wayne Simmonds now stay with the Toronto Maple Leafs?

With Matt Murray being out for a minimum of 4 weeks, it will allow Wayne Simmonds to stay with the Leafs. Simmonds provides the Leafs with some team toughness and he has proven to be a good body guard for the Leafs star players.

Simmonds wants to win a Stanley Cup before he retires and he feels the Leafs provide him with the best shot.

Wayne does have a 10 team no-trade clause and he does carry an affordable $900k Leafs salary cap hit, let’s hope he can stay with the big club for the remainder of the NHL season.
