Jakob Chychrun Oilers
NHL trade rumors for October 16, 2022 feature Jakob Chychrun. Senators are out of the Jakob Chychrun sweepstakes, are the Oilers all-in?

All summer NHL trade rumors had floated that the Ottawa Senators would be the destination choice for a Jakob Chychrun trade. It now appears that a potential trade is off the table and Chychrun will be an Arizona Coyote for the foreseeable future.

The Yotes had let teams know their high asking price but also let potential suitors know that they were willing to take a bad contract back in a trade.

Why are the Ottawa Senators out a Jakob Chychrun trade?

The obvious answer to why the Ottawa Senators are no longer interested in a Jakob Chychrun deal is the asking price from the Arizona Coyotes.

Coyotes management have held firm that they want two first round picks and a top prospect for Chychrun.

Elliotte Friedman was on his 32 Thoughts segment on Hockey Night in Canada and reported that he heard from multiple sources that there is just not a path to make a deal between the Sens and Yotes.

With any type of trade discussion, things can change but Friedman believes the two sides are not even close and a deal is off the table.

What will the Arizona Coyotes do with Jakob Chychrun

Jakob Chychrun has stated he would like to play for a playoff contending team. They will honor his request but only if they receive the asking price they want.

Chychrun is coming off an injury and will be suiting up to play this week. Over the next few months if he plays well and can prove he is worth the asking price the Coyotes want for him, he will be traded but likely at the 2023 NHL trade deadline.

When will the Edmonton Oilers make a pitch for Jakob Chychrun?

The Edmonton Oilers need a top-4 defenceman and it should be the #1 priority for GM Ken Holland over the next few months.

The Oilers have had interest in a Chychrun trade all offseason, but with the asking price being too steep they have stayed away.

If the Oilers continue to struggle defensively as the season goes along, Holland may have no choice but to give up the assets the Yotes want if they want to be Stanley Cup contenders come playoff time.
