Sportsnet: The Calgary Flames are looking to make a big trade after the slow start by the team. Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving is working the phones seeking a trade to help his struggling club. One rumor Sportsnet is reporting is that Trevliving had conversations with Tampa Bay Lightning GM Steve Yzerman regarding soon-to-be UFA superstar Steven Stamkos. Sportsnet reports Treliving would be willing to deal “a top young player, perhaps Sam Bennett, to acquire Stamkos at this point,” but it would likely take center Sean Monahan to complete that deal, and Monahan’s considered “the most untradeable Flame.”
If everything was perfect in Tampa, Stamkos would be signed by now, and the fact he isn’t is Lightning GM Steve Yzerman resigned to losing him, and as such, will try to trade the asset.
In other trade notes for the Flames, Treliving is looking to trade defencemen Dennis Wideman. He had an excellent season last year, and teams like the LA kings, Boston Bruins and Columbus Blue Jackets need d-men.
