Seth Jones wanted a big pay day and had no interest in re-signing with the Columbus Blue Jackets last offseason, so he was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks, a team that is now in a full rebuild.
His new contract kicks in this season and he has a Blackhawks salary cap hit of $9.5 million/year for the next eight years.
Seth Jones is not necessarily in agreement with the direction the Blackhawks are taking, he will let dust settle first and subsequently make the best decision as it pertains to his career.

Jones does have a full no-move clause on his contract and you have to believe if he wants no part of a full rebuild by the Chicago Blackhawks, he will waive that clause.
Jones will not be traded anytime soon as most teams have used up their NHL salary cap dollars during the free agent frenzy period earlier this week.
As the 2023 NHL trade deadline approaches next season, playoff contending teams could seek a Jones trade to improve their playoff and Stanley Cup chances.
The Blackhawks will likely have to eat some salary for any Jones trade to happen. But since Jones controls his fate with his no-move clause, he controls his future, but NHL teams are under a tight salary cap which might prevent a Jones trade from ever happening.
