The Pittsburgh Penguins have just over $1.8 million of cap space available and they would like to make some more room. The Penguins tried to trade Marcus Pettersson before free agency period started with no luck.
Frank Seravalli from the Daily Faceoff is reporting the Penguins have attempted to package Pettersson in other transactions, but no team is willing to take him at full cap hit.
For a trade to happen the Penguins will likely have to package a prospect or draft picks in a Pettersson deal for a trade to happen and receive nothing back. The Penguins have no interest in retaining salary as it would defeat the purpose for the trade.
Pettersson, 25, has 4 years remaining at $4.025 million AAV.
