Will the Boston Bruins bring back Tyler Seguin as a rental?
Boston Herald: Steve Conroy reports Tyler Seguin is disappointed he has not been signed to a long-term, megabucks deal. Seguin is entering the final year of his contract, but he told reporters there have been no negotiations with Dallas management this summer on an extension.
If Seguin makes it all the way to NHL free agency next summer, would I take the plunge if I was running the Bruins? It would have to be a no. A long, much-deliberated no, but a no nonetheless. But if the Stars find themselves out of the playoff race come February and Seguin becomes available as a rental? Absolutely. And there wouldn’t be much need for deliberation.
Will the Golden Knights make a trade or sign a free agent defenceman?
NBC Sports: Vegas Golden Knights defenceman Nate Schmidt has been suspended 20 games by the NHL. James O’Briens speculates that the suspension could force the Golden Knights to trade or sign a free agent defenceman? It makes you wonder if maybe GM George McPhee should consider bringing in some additional depth. No, there aren’t a ton of promising options on the UFA defensemen market, but Cody Franson seems like a low-risk, OK-reward signing, one who could make sense as a bottom-pairing guy or injury insurance even after Schmidt’s suspension ends.
