The Philadelphia Flyers tried to trade for Artemi Panarin

Flyers Nation: Hockey Insider Elliotte Friedman reported that the Philadelphia Flyers made a run this offseason to try and land Artemi Panarin of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

It appears the Flyers were likely one of many teams who tried to negotiate a trade offer for the budding superstar.

“Someone told me before they signed James van Riemsdyk, Philly tried to take a run at Panarin,” said Elliotte Friedman. “I heard that. That was one of the rumours going around that they were trying to land him.”

While the Flyers already have one of the best forward groups in the NHL, we’ll just have to wait and see if GM Ron Hextall comes circling back if Panarin goes to free agency at the end of 2018-19.

Could the Toronto Maple Leafs sign-and-trade William Nylander?

TSN 1050: Darren Dreger was on the radio discussing William Nylander and the question was brought up to Dreger, if he felt there was “even a small chance” a sign-and-trade might be consummated “because they would come to the conclusion, or start to get the feeling,” that maybe there isn’t agreement here that they can live with.”

A trade is unlikely as other teams would find it tough to fit a $7 million plus player on their team, and is he worth it?

Dreger also stated,  “I guess the only thing that makes me hesitant to jump on that side of the story is how many teams are lining up to give William Nylander $7-plus million. I mean, he’s a heck of a player. He really is. But is he a $7-plus million player? He’s not for me. Not yet.

Nylander needs another year of pro before he’ll have arbitration rights.
