The Fourth Period: The Nashville Predators are battling the Winnipeg Jets for top spot in the Central Division and GM David Poile is looking to add a top-six caliber forward to his roster.

Poile has roughly $12.9 million in salary cap space to play with, should he choose to add a significant piece to the team, though such a deal would likely result in a roster player going back the other way.

Trade Rumors are the Preds are interested in LA Kings forward Jeff Carter.

Carter, who turned 34 on Jan. 1, has three-years left on his contract after this season and comes with a $5.272 salary cap hit. He does not own any no-trade protection.

Niklas Kronwall to the Toronto Maple Leafs?

The Fourth Period: GM Kyle Dubas is looking to upgrade his definsive corps and he may look to the Detroit Red Wings and target Niklas Kronwall.

With a little more than $8.75 million in available salary cap space this season, the Leafs have plenty of space to make a trade.

Kronwall, 37, owns a 10-team trade-list as part of his no-movement clause, and was coached by current Leafs bench boss Mike Bobcock during his 10-year run in Detroit.

If the Leafs shift their focus elsewhere as they lead up to the Feb. 25 NHL trade deadline, the team could focus on the likes of pending UFAs Adam McQuaid of the New York Rangers or Jay Bouwmeester of the St. Louis Blues.
