Timothy Liljegren NHL Rumors January 20, 2019
The Toronto Maple Leafs are willing to offer their 2019 1st round pick and Timothy Liljegren for a top 4 defenceman.

Maple Leafs looking to trade for a defenceman

Sportsnet: Trade speculation has been going around for awhile that the Leafs need a top 4 defenceman if they want to contend for the Stanley Cup. Darnell Nurse would be a perfect fit for the Leafs but the Edmonton Oilers say he is not available.

Nick Kypreos reports the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking for a right-shot defenceman and the cost will come at a premium.

“Certainly the Leafs are looking for one,” Kypreos said during Saturday’s Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada. “In terms of what they’re looking for, the problem is if you’re going to go after a top four — and we mentioned [Blues’ defenceman Alex] Pietrangelo months ago, and it’s debatable whether he’s still available but they are perhaps, the St. Louis Blues, two or three or four-game losing streaks away from making him available — they’re expensive. Extremely expensive.”

Kypreos feels the Leafs will offer their 2019 1st round pick and prospect Timothy Liljegren for a top 4 defenceman. The Leafs will not trade Rasmus Sandin or Kasperi Kapanen for a dman.

If Pietrangelo is not available, the Leafs could target LA Kings dman Jake Muzzin or Philadelphia Flyers rearguard Radko Gudas.

New York Islanders could make trades at NHL Trade Deadline

New York Post: With the New York Islanders performing above expectations and comfortably in a playoff spot. Larry Brooks reports the Islanders could make some trade deadline deals to make a run at the Stanley Cup.

The Islanders have a pretty fair collection of young assets to offer teams for a trade. Brooks feels that the Islanders could target Matt Duchene or Mark Stone of the Ottawa Senators if they are not signed to new contract extensions.

Brooks also suggests the Isles could target some depth defenceman like LA Kings Jake Muzzin or Alec Martinez.

  1. Duschene or Stone (or both, yeah riiiight) would be nice! The Isles already have the best defense in the NHL judging by the numbers, so a top six winger or center seems the most likely move. The Islanders are going to be a very tough out for any team in the east.

The Maple Leafs better hope they don’t come up against the Isles come playoff time – eliminating the liar Tavares would be sooooooo sweet & will no doubt serve as extra motivation for “his” former team that he ABANDONED… Tavares is a selfish, me first guy that led his teammates to believe he was an Islander, only to leave them high & dry with NOTHING to show for it! He knew he wasn’t signing with the Isles & lied about his intentions the entire time, it was soooo obvious! The Isles could’ve moved him at the deadline & got something for the overrated narcissist.

Not overrated? What has he done?! NOTHING.

Anders Lee is a MUCH better leader/captain! The Islanders are better without Tavares – MUCH better. It all worked out for the good though, in reality the Leafs exchanged Martin, Komorov & Lamoriello for Tavares. I’ll take that deal any day of the week! Let’s GO Islanders!
