Sportsnet: Patrick Marleau has popped back up in the trade rumors mill. Damion Cox feels it’s uncertain if Marleau is seeking a trade or if he’s been asked to waive his no-movement clause. Elliotte Friedman telling Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 claiming “there is something going on in San Jose (with) Patrick Marleau. I don’t know exactly what it is… The Anaheim Ducks, Nashville Predators, Carolina Hurricanes, Buffalo Sabres and New Jersey Devils possess sufficient cap space to absorb Marleau’s cap hit.

Bob McKenzie: In an interview with USA Today, TSN insider Bob McKenzie reported Anaheim Ducks GM Bob Murray was trying to make a deal, but he’s unwilling to do anything rash. He also believed the Blue Jackets are still in the market for a defenseman. Earlier in the week, McKenzie named the Colorado Avalanche among several teams with interest in demoted Edmonton Oilers blueliner Nikita Nikitin.

The Hockey News: Trade rumors continue to float around the Calgary Flames dressing room. Defensemen Dennis Wideman and Kris Russell prominently featured.with GM Brad Treliving continues to gauge their market value. Wideman carries a full no-movement clause and an annual cap hit of $5.25 million through 2016-17, making him very difficult to move at this point in the season. Russell, meanwhile, is a pending UFA lacking a movement clause and carrying a more affordable $2.6 cap hit.
