Mikko Rantanen and Colorado not close on contract agreement

The Athletic: Pierre LeBrun reported that the Colorado Avalanche offered Mikko Rantanen a six to eight-year contract worth between $8.4 million and $8.75 million that was turned down.

Rumors are Rantanen wants a deal comparable to the one Mitch Marner received from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The top RFA’s want to be paid big right now and do not want to wait until a bridge deal is complete to get the big contract. If these RFA’s want a big contract, they should be able to accept a 6-8 year deal and not a 3-5 year deal.

The Columbus Blue Jackets did offer Mitch Marner an offer sheet, that he declined, you have to wonder as time does go on will GM Jarmo Kekalainen attempt to sign Rantanen to an offer sheet?

Will the St. Louis Blues trade Jake Allen?

St. Louis Dispatch: After winning the Stanley Cup, many expected that the St. Louis Blues would be active on the trade market this summer with many RFA’s to sign and two starting goalies.

Right now Jake Allen is the odd man out in St. Louis. The Blues are tight against the salary cap and they would love to free up some space by trading Allen.

Allen’s name popped up throughout the summer in trade rumors and he tells Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he was well aware of the rumors.

Allen does still hope to be the #1 goalie in St. Louis, as he believes Jordan Binnington was just on a ‘run’ last year and might not be so lucky this year.

If Binnington continues to play great, the Blues will look into trading Allen to free up the cap space most teams do need!
