Maple Leafs Hurricanes NHL Rumors February 8, 2019
Are the Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes working on a trade?

Will the Toronto Maple Leafs make another big trade?

TSN: Are the Toronto Maple Leafs looking to make another big trade? Pierre LeBrun is reporting the Leafs have been scouting the Carolina Hurricanes. The big question is, who are the Leafs scouting?

Are the Leafs looking to add a right shot defenceman like Dougie Hamilton or Brett Pesce? Or are they looking to add a power forward in Micheal Ferland?

Whomever the Leafs are scouting, if they are to make a trade with Carolina, it will likely not cost draft picks and prospects. The Hurricanes will be looking to trade for Kasperi Kapanen or Andreas Johnsson.

Could the Colorado Avalanche trade Tyson Barrie?

Denver Post: Mike Chambers reports there’s a very good chance Tyson Barrie is traded by the Feb. 25 NHL trade deadline or this summer.

Barrie, Conor Timmins and Cale Makar are right shot, puck-skating defensemen, and while you wouldn’t mind having two of them, three’s a crowd in this situation. Barrie’s $5.5 million cap hit through next season makes him the odd-man out.

The Avs will also have to free up salary cap space to re-sign Mikko Rantanen who will be looking to sign for around $10 million/year.
