The Boston Globe: Now that the Boston Bruins have hired Don Sweeney as the new GM of the team, he must decide what to do with Bruins forward Milan Lucic. Lucic will be a UFA next summer and the team has limited cap space. Lucic could command over $7 million annually on the open market. Sweeney will gauge Lucic’s trade value this summer and if the right deal comes along, he will likely be traded.
The Globe and Mail: Eric Duhatschek notes the Edmonton Oilers still need to trade for a true starting goalie. He suggests Arizona Coyotes netminder Mike Smith as a trade target. Smith had an excellent World Championship with Team Canada and Duhatschek believes the Coyotes might be happy to shed the remainder of Smith’s contract (four years, $5.667 million per season for the more affordable Ben Scrivens.) Smith must be willing to waive his no-trade clause.
The Toronto Sun: With the signing of Andrew Hammond, expect the Ottawa Senators to trade Robin Lehner before the NHL Entry draft next month. Bruce Garrioch says the Buffalo Sabres, Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks have already called the Senators about Lehner.
