The Score: The Buffalo Sabres have offered UFA d-man Cody Franson a 2-year contract. Franson,28, registered 36 points in 78 games split between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Nashville Predators last season. Buffalo has just over $12.5 million in cap space. Franson made $3.3 million in 2014-15.
News & Observer: Cam Ward is hoping to sign a contract extension with the Carolina Hurricanes rather than being traded. Ward will make $6.3 million in 2015-16, with his six-year deal set to expire next summer. It’s a contract the Hurricanes have been rumored to have been looking to trade this past year with no takers. The Hurricanes now have Eddie Lack, expect Carolina to shop Ward all season long and hopefully find a taker?
Andy Strickland: Scott Gomez, 35, is not ready to retire just yet. Gomez has accepted the St. Louis Blues‘ invite to attend camp on a professional tryout contract. Gomez put up 34 points in 58 games with the New Jersey Devils last season.
