Will the Minnesota Wild trade Eric Staal?

The Fourth Period: The Minnesota Wild sit in the last wild card spot but are only 4 points being at the bottom of the standings.

Losing captain Mikko Koivu for the rest of the season due to injury hurts the club down the stretch . GM Paul Fenton has a serious decision to make related to pending unrestricted free agent centre Eric Staal.

Several teams have expressed serious interest in Staal and Fenton has been weighing his options. Staal, 34, owns a 10-team no-trade list.

While it’s not yet known which teams are after Staal, a number of clubs – including the New York Islanders, Winnipeg Jets and Montreal Canadiens – are looking for an upgrade up the middle or in their top-six and could be in pursuit.

Will Cam Talbot end up in Philadelphia or Carolina?

TSN: The Edmonton Oilers and Philadelphia Flyers are in discussions on a potential Cam Talbot trade according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger.

A few teams have thought about giving Talbot a “test drive” for the rest of the season to see if he can regain his form. The Carolina Hurricanes were a team briefly debating whether or not to pursue Talbot weeks ago.

The team needs to clear $1.2 million in cap space to activate Andrej Sekera from injured reserve. He played his third rehab game for the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors and he will play the maximum of five games before being activated.
