Will the Toronto Maple Leafs make a trade for LA Kings star defenceman Drew Doughty? Doughty admits he is a Leaf fan. He is quoted as saying, “I think all of us Southern Ontario players, we secretly want to play for the Leafs,” Doughty told TSN Radio’s Leafs Lunch back on June 15.” Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star speculates Toronto would like to see Drew Doughty become a Maple Leaf. The Kings all-star blueliner gave legs to that one himself, musing in an interview he’d like to play for the Leafs one day. If the Kings were truly interested, the price tag would be huge, with William Nylander or Mitch Marner going plus draft picks, top prospects.

Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman speculated a couple of weeks ago that a LA Kings–Ottawa Senators deal involving Dustin Brown and Dion Phaneuf made sense because the money is almost even, I think I guessed the wrong L.A. player. More likely, they were discussing Marian Gaborik.

Teams like the Boston Bruins, Columbus Blue Jackets, Nashville Predators, Pittsburgh Penguins and maybe the Calgary Flames. Friedman thinks the Avalanche were targeting Mathew Barzal and Ilya Sorokin from the Islanders, Brandon Carlo or Charlie McAvoy from the Bruins, and Mattias Ekholm from the Predators.
