The Carolina Hurricanes have taken a big blow to their lineup with newly acquired forward Max Pacioretty out six months with a torn Achilles.

Pacioretty, 33, was traded from the Vegas Golden Knights to the Hurricanes last month in a Vegas salary cap dump deal as the Golden Knights needed to become cap compliant.

How was Max Pacioretty injured? There has been no word on how the injury occurred.

How does Pacioretty’s injury affect the Hurricanes salary cap? He will be put on long-term injured reserve which will free up $7 million in cap space, but the Hurricanes will need that cap space back when he comes off injured reserve in six months time.

Pacioretty was drafted 22nd overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the 2007 NHL entry draft. Over a career that currently spans 14 seasons, he has a total 642 points in 850 games played, and 49 playoffs points in 74 GP.
