As we all know, the Montreal Canadiens will be sellers at the NHL trade deadline. In today’s NHL trade rumors mill we will focus on the interest the New York Rangers have in Habs forward Artturi Lehkonen.
Arthur Staple of The Athletic reports NY Rangers GM Chris Drury has been in contact with his former boss Jeff Gorton regarding a Lehkonen trade.
Staple went on to say, Lehkonen is the sort of upgrade the Rangers would want not just for now but for the long haul. Lehkonen is a third-liner and penalty-kill guy who contributes on offense and doesn’t kill you defensively.
A Lehkonen trade will not come cheap for the Rangers. He is 26, a pending RFA and is due a $2.3 million qualifying offer. He does not own a no-trade clause so there would be no restrictions on a trade.
