The Fourth Period: Colorado Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie appears available on the trade market, providing the Avs receive the right deal for him. The Avs are expected to be fairly active this off-season, as they look to retool their roster fort he 2017-18 campaign. Barrie, who has a salary cap hit of $5.5 million, registered seven goals and 31 assists for 38 points in 74 games with the Avs this season.

The Fourth Period: Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill has already acknowledged publicly that he has had conversations with other teams about the third-overall pick and his desire to acquire a proven NHL player for it. Nill most certainly wants to improve his defensive corps this off-season and could look to move the third-overall pick for a top-four defenseman, likely a second-pair blueliner. Dallas has been linked to showing some interest in Edmonton Oilers right wing Jordan Eberle, but his $6 million salary cap hit poses an issue.

The Athletic: The New York Rangers are going pursue a top right-handed defenseman. Kevin Shattenkirk is the best blueliner potentially available in this summer’s unrestricted free agent market but the cost of signing him could prove expensive. The Rangers would like to pursue Winnipeg’s Jacob Trouba, however, they’ll have to give up an impressive package to get him.
