Picture of Matt Dumba. Which team will he be playing for next season?
With the Minnesota Wild having no cap space to work with, Matt Dumba will be playing for a different team next year.

The Minnesota Wild are in NHL salary cap hell for the next two years with a $14 million cap hit against the team for the buyouts of Ryan Suter and Zach Parise.

The Wild have just over $8 million in cap space to fill 7 roster spots with one unrestricted free agent being Matt Dumba.

Matt Dumba likely playing for another team next season

Elliotte Friedman was on his 32 Thoughts Podcast and stated that Minnesota Wild defenceman Matt Dumba will test the free market.

Friedman went on to say in his podcast that the Wild cannot re-sign him right now but the Wild will not close the door on him. They will try to find a way to free up the cap space needed before July 1, 2023 when free agency opens.

Wild management have a ton of respect for Dumba, he’s a very popular teammate and member of the organization.

What are Wild fans saying about a possible Matt Dumba departure?

The Wild need to keep him. Great human being, tough, principled, fun, funny! People like Matt Dumba change the entire complexion of a team through sheer force of personality.

Time to move on unless he takes a significant pay cut. He’s a great teammate and community guy but we need more out of a top 4 defenseman

Time to move on from him. We’ve won nothing with our current D core at some point you have to retool. Great team mate I’m sure. Need to take these next 2 seasons and develop young guys.
