This news comes as a shock to many, especially considering Trouba’s status as team captain and Kreider’s long tenure with the Blueshirts. However, with the Rangers struggling to meet lofty expectations this season, it seems General Manager Chris Drury may be looking to shake things up.
One team that has emerged as a potential landing spot for Trouba is the Nashville Predators.

The Predators, like the Rangers, have had a disappointing start to the season. With a 7-11-3 record, they are far from the Stanley Cup contender many predicted them to be. Perhaps a change of scenery and a veteran presence like Trouba is exactly what they need to spark a turnaround.
The rumored trade scenario has Jacob Trouba heading to Nashville with the Rangers retaining $1.5 million of his $8 million cap hit. To sweeten the deal, the Predators would also receive a 2026 first-round pick. In return, the Rangers would acquire veteran defenseman Luke Schenn.
This trade makes sense for both sides. Nashville gets a top-four defenseman and a much-needed boost on the blue line. Trouba brings physicality, leadership, and a strong defensive presence, something the Predators desperately need. The Rangers, on the other hand, free up cap space and acquire a reliable, stay-at-home defenseman in Schenn.
While Trouba does have a 15-team no-trade list, it is believed that Nashville is not on it. This opens the door for a potential deal, and with the Christmas trade freeze looming, we could see this rumor gain traction quickly.
Of course, this is all speculation at this point. However, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. And with the Predators’ need for a shake-up and the Rangers’ willingness to move Trouba, this trade could be a win-win for both teams.
