The Colorado Avalanche have been playing well lately as they contend for the Central division lead but the injury bug has hit the team on defence.

In the latest NHL trade rumors mill the Avs could look at making a trade for Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Travis Dermott or Justin Holl.

Colorado has recently lost defenceman Ryan Murray and Bowen Byram for an indefinite period of time. This has GM Joe Sakic looking to make a trade for a dman.

Josh Erickson of Pro Hockey Rumors reports the Leafs, who have a logjam on defense and are looking to ship out a player to create some roster and salary cap flexibility.

Erickson went on to say Dermott and Holl are likely pretty good targets the Avs will look at. Erickson figures Dermott is the better option for a trade because he is signed through 2023 for $500,000 less than Holl and less mistake prone.
