The latest NHL trade rumors for the Colorado Avalanche suggest that the team could target Montreal Canadiens goalie Casey DeSmith.

The Montreal Canadiens have three goalies on their roster and one of them will likely be traded before the NHL season starts next month.

NHL trade rumors are making the rounds that the Colorado Avalanche will need a goalie and they could pursue Habs goaltender Casey DeSmith.

Will the Colorado Avalanche make a trade for Casey DeSmith?

It was speculated that Casey DeSmith, acquired by the Montreal Canadiens in the Erik Karlsson trade to Pittsburgh, would be traded during the offseason for draft assets.

According to Frank Seravalli from The Daily Faceoff, the Colorado Avalanche will need to find a new backup goalie because their current backup, Pavel Francouz, is recovering from offseason adductor surgery.

NHL trade rumors suggest the Montreal Canadiens may trade DeSmith to the Avs for a 3rd or 4th-round draft pick if GM Kent Hughes agrees to retain some of his salary cap hit.

What are NHL fans saying about a Casey DeSmith trade to the Colorado Avalanche?

Francouz has never be reliable for the Avalanche. A DeSmith trade makes total sense.

The Habs would likely get a 4th for Desmith if salary is retained by Montreal.

DeSmith is the perfect backup. It would be a great move by the Avs. He is not a starter but would compliment Georgiev perfectly.
