Cale Makar was voted as the top defenseman in the NHL by the NHLPA. Makar received 63.9% of the player vote.

The NHLPA sent out a player poll and one of the questions asked was, who is the top defenceman in the NHL?

It was not even close as Colorado defenseman Cale Makar blew away his peers with almost 64% of the vote.

In total, there were 626 NHL players involved in the vote. Last year Makar had a season for the ages in winning the Norris Trophy, Conn Smythe Trophy and Stanley Cup.

Top 5 NHL defenseman voted by the NHLPA

  1. Cale Makar, Colorado Avalanche: 63.9%
  2. Victor Hedman, Tampa Bay Lightning: 11.4%
  3. Roman Josi, Nashville Predators: 6%
  4. Erik KArlsson, San Jose Sharks: 3.3%
  5. Adam Fox, New York Rangers/Rasmus Dahlin, Buffalo Sabres: 2%

All other defenseman made up 11.54% of the vote.

Makar, 24, was drafted 4th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 1st round of the 2017 NHL entry draft. Currently over a career that spans 5 seasons, he has a total 241 points in 233 games played, and 60 playoffs points in 55 games played.
