Game Preview, Stats, and Prediction

This divisional battle finds both teams trying to find their footing. The Boston Bruins enter tonight’s contest with a disappointing 4-6-0 record. They are coming off a high-scoring but ultimately losing effort against the Anaheim Ducks, dropping that game 7-5. Their defense and goaltending have been uncharacteristically shaky to start the season.

The Ottawa Senators, meanwhile, are holding a 4-4-1 record. They are coming in with some positive momentum, having ground out a 2-1 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers in their last game.

When looking at the offensive leaders, the Bruins are once again leaning heavily on their superstar. David Pastrnak leads the team with 13 points (5 goals, 8 assists). He’s followed by Elias Lindholm and Morgan Geekie, who have both chipped in 7 points.

For the Senators, the offense is being driven by Shane Pinto, who is off to a scorching start with 9 points, including 8 goals. Dylan Cozens is right behind him with 9 points (6 goals, 3 assists). The Senators will need their depth to step up against a Boston team that is hungry for a win.

Given the stats, I have to look at the betting odds for this game. The line is set at Ottawa -140 with the O/U at 6.5. Personally, I feel the oddsmakers have this right. Ottawa is the home favorite, and the Bruins just gave up seven goals. While I expect Boston’s defense to be better tonight, their 3-6-0 record doesn’t inspire confidence. The Senators, coming off a solid defensive win, seem like the safer bet. I’m leaning toward the Senators moneyline. The Over/Under of 6.5 is tricky. Both teams have scorers, but they also have something to prove defensively.

Prediction: Ottawa 4, Boston 2
