NHL trade rumors have playoff contending teams contacting the Habs on the availability of Ben Chiarot. He will likely fetch a 1st round pick.

NHL trade rumors floated around 10 days ago before the firing Marc Bergevin that the Montreal Canadiens would look at trading Ben Chiarot.

Pierre LeBrun was on TSN’s Insider Trading and he has confirmed that indeed Chiarot is on the trade block and that playoff contending teams are contacting Montreal on the asking price.

LeBrun went on to say Chiarot can absolutely fetch a first-round pick given the dearth of rental defencemen available. He does have a 10-team no-trade list.

A Chiarot trade likely will not happen until new VP of Hockey Operations Jeff Gorton hires a GM and they sit down and decide exactly what to do with the Habs and who should be traded and what they want in return.

You can expect Chiarot to be traded at some point in early 2022 and not near the NHL trade deadline.
