The Colorado Avalanche received some brutal news this week as it was announced that captain Gabriel Landeskog will miss the entire 2023-24 NHL season due to a cartilage transplant procedure in his right knee.
Who knows if his knee will ever 100% recover but with Landeskog missing an entire year, it free’s up $7 million in Avalanche cap space to make a big offseason move.
The Avs need a player to fill a role on the 2nd line and they could have their eyes on Patrick Kane.
Will Patrick Kane sign with the Avalanche this offseason?
Bennett Durando of the Denver Post reports Colorado Avalanche GM Chris MacFarland is open to signing a veteran player like Patrick Kane this offseason on a short-term deal.
If the Avalanche feel Landeskog’s career is over, they might look at the trade route this summer and target a younger player that is signed on a longer-term contract.
