Picture of Andrew Peeke. Will the Toronto Maple Leafs make a trade for him?
The latest NHL trade rumors for the Toronto Maple Leafs feature a trade package including TJ Brodie for Columbus Blue Jackets Andrew Peeke.

With NHL training camps starting later this week, the Toronto Maple Leafs still find themselves $2,943,950 in the red with Jake Muzzin and Matt Murray using long-term injured reserve when the season starts.

NHL trade rumors are making the rounds that the Maple Leafs have an interest in Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Andrew Peeke.

Will Andrew Peeke be traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs?

For the Toronto Maple Leafs to acquire Andrew Peeke and his $2,750,000 salary cap hit, GM Brad Treliving will have to unload a heftier contract to get the Leafs salary cap compliant.

NHL trade rumors have Toronto sending defenseman TJ Brodie and his $5,000,000 salary cap hit back to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The trade will still leave the Leafs $750K over the cap, but that is manageable for salary cap whiz Brandon Pridham.

The proposed trade:

To the Toronto Maple Leafs
Andrew Peeke

To the Columbus Blue Jackets
TJ Brodie
2024 4th round draft pick
Prospect Dennis Hildeby

What are NHL fans saying about a potential Andrew Peeke trade to the Toronto Maple Leafs?

I think the proposed trade only works if the Leafs retain salary. If the Leafs retain, they are over the salary cap.

Would love to see Andrew Peeke on the Leafs, but Brodie is with the Leafs until his contract expires next offseason.

Columbus has other things to worry about than making a trade for Brodie.
