The Carolina Hurricanes received some devastating news as forward Andrei Svechnikov will undergo knee surgery. He will miss the remainder of the NHL season and playoffs.

Svechnikov was having an excellent season on the low scoring Hurricanes putting up 23 goals and 55 points in 64 games. He suffered the injury on Saturday against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Svechnikov was drafted 2nd overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 1st round of the 2018 NHL entry draft. He is under contract with the Hurricanes for another six years with a Canes salary cap hit of $7.750M.

What are fans saying about the Andrei Svechnikov injury?

I can’t begin to imagine how he’s feeling right now. praying everything goes smoothly

How to Carolina not go out and buy at the NHL trade deadline. Going to be a waste of a season.

Losing a 50 Pt, 23+ G scorer, and 30+ assists is a dagger. They don’t have anyone that can fill that role or his toughness. Don’t think they can make a legitimate Cup push without him. Better go ALL in next season.
