Will the Florida Panthers make a significant trade after placing defenceman Aaron Ekblad on long-term injured reserve?

If you watch the Aaron Ekblad injury video below, you knew his injury would not be short-term, but long-term. That was confirmed today when the Florida Panthers announced that Ekblad would be placed on LTIR and will not be back for the regular season.

With only today and tomorrow left before the NHL trade deadline ends, you can expect the Panthers to be active in the NHL trade market with the newly available salary cap space available.

The Panthers have already made one move today by trading for Buffalo Sabres defenceman Robert Hagg for a 2022 sixth round draft pick.

Florida still has over $7 million in cap space to make a trade for a significant player. The problem is they have no first round picks until the year 2025 to use as trade bait.
