The Winnipeg Jets have secured forward David Gustafsson and defenseman Logan Stanley for two more seasons.

Winnipeg Jets fans woke up to some positive offseason news as the team announced two-year contract extensions for forward David Gustafsson and defenseman Logan Stanley.

The deals, with an AAV of $835,000 for Gustafsson and $1,250,000 for Stanley, provide both players and the team with stability as they prepare for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Winnipeg Jets Bolsters Depth with Contract Extensions

Gustafsson, a second-round pick from the 2018 NHL draft, has steadily carved out a role in the Jets’ bottom-six forward group. The 24-year-old Swede contributed three goals and seven points in 39 games last season. While he might not light up the scoresheet, Gustafsson’s value lies in his responsible two-way play, faceoff prowess, and ability to kill penalties. This extension solidifies his place in the lineup and gives him a chance to continue developing into a reliable NHLer.

Stanley, on the other hand, brings a different dimension to the Jets’ blue line. Standing at 6’7″, the towering defenseman boasts a combination of size and physicality that is hard to come by. While his offensive production has been limited, Stanley’s defensive play and penalty killing have shown flashes of potential. The 25-year-old appeared in 25 games last season, adding a goal and two points. This contract offers him the opportunity to cement his position within the top six and further refine his game.

For the Jets, these signings represent a commitment to maintaining depth and internal growth. While both players are still relatively young, they possess qualities that complement the team’s core. Gustafsson’s work ethic and defensive responsibility, along with Stanley’s physical presence, add valuable layers to the Jets’ lineup.
