The Vancouver Canucks have been mentioned quite a bit in the NHL trade rumors mill lately. They are looking to trade J.T. Miller but also looking to add some defensive help to the team next season.
Rob Simpson of Vancouver Hockey Now reports the Canucks have interest in a Tyson Barrie trade. Evan Bouchard and Cody Ceci played well last season for the Edmonton Oilers which has made Barrie expendable. Plus Bouchard is due a big raise next offseason.
Vancouver has no depth on the right-side, which makes Barrie a perfect fit. Barrie has a very affordable $4.5-milliion Oilers salary cap hit over the next two seasons.
What could Vancouver offer in a trade for Barrie? The Canucks could offer up goalie prospect Michael DiPietro in a Barrie trade. If the Oilers are not interested in prospects and just want draft picks, the Canucks could offer a second and fourth round pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out as the Oilers are looking to shed salary and Vancouver needs a right-side puck moving defenceman.
