Mika Zibanejad, 28, is slated to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. The big question is, will he be re-signed or traded by the 2022 NHL trade deadline?
Mollie Walker of the New York Post reports Zibanejad could be in line for a seven or eight-year extension. It’s believed his camp’s initial ask is $10 million annually while Rangers management will likely look at something in the $7 million to $9 million range.
NHL Trade Rumors also have the New York Rangers interested in Jack Eichel and if a trade were to happen, the Rangers cannot afford both Zibanejad and Eichel.
If the Rangers and decide to trade for Eichel, it is likely Zibanejad is traded at the trade deadline, if the Rangers are in playoff contention, the Rangers will likely keep him as their own rental for a playoff run. If Zibanejad is re-signed, Eichel will not become a New York Ranger.
