Over the past four months there have been a lot of NHL trade rumors floating around on which goalie the Montreal Canadiens will trade. Would it be Carey Price or Jake Allen?
If Carey Price is healthy the Habs will likely look to trade Allen in the offseason. It is simply unsustainable to have $14 million of Habs salary cap space or more locked up in goaltending.
Price has stated he does not want to leave Montreal and he owns a no-movement clause.
Darren Dreger was on the Montreal Hockey Now Podcast and reported that there is significant interest in Jake Allen across the league, and he was a highly sought-after asset leading up to the NHL Trade Deadline.
If the Habs do decide to trade Allen this offseason, he has one year left on his contract with a cap hit of $2.875 million. Samuel Montembeault would take over as the backup to Carey Price.
