Picture of Montreal Canadiens defenseman David Savard. Will he be traded this coming season?
The latest NHL trade rumors for the Montreal Canadiens have the team looking to trade defenseman David Savard.

The Montreal Canadiens have been a pretty quiet team when it comes to NHL trade rumors this offseason. The only big rumor that is hanging around the team is if the Montreal Canadiens can trade Carey Price’s contract?

One player that could garner some trade interest as the NHL season approaches is defenseman David Savard.

Will David Savard be traded this coming season?

David Savard, 32, has been a solid defenseman for the Habs, he has been a great mentor and leader in Montreal and you have to think a playoff contending team come December will be contacting GM Kent Hughes on what it would cost to get Savard out of Montreal.

Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports that the only way Savard will be traded this coming season is if the Montreal Canadiens are out of playoff contention.

Engels went on to say in his mailbag piece that Savard will be in demand once NHL trade rumors start heating up in December and the Habs would want a NHL-ready prospect rather than a first round draft pick.

What are Montreal Canadiens fans saying about a potential David Savard trade?

The Habs should trade David Savard now! If he get’s injured again, we could be pooched out of a top prospect/ first round draft pick.

He needs to stay a Hab and mentor our prospects and young players. Please don’t trade him.

We are rebuilding. He needs to be traded at some point. He has played solid when healthy, Hughes has to trade him at the NHL trade deadline.
