Alexis Lafreniere Montreal Canadiens trade
Is Alexis Lafreniere Destined to Play in Montreal?

With the recent benching of Alexis Lafreniere, it has NHL trade rumors swirling about what the New York Rangers will do with the young forward?

He has not lived up to expectations of a #1 overall pick, but he is still only 21 and with a lot of time to improve. With the New York Rangers being Stanley Cup contenders and with rumors the Blue Shirts interested in players like Patrick Kane and J.T. Miller, will the NY Rangers package Lafreniere for a forward.

Montreal Canadiens interested in Alexis Lafreniere?

Alexis Lafreniere has been tied to the Vancouver Canucks and Chicago Blackhawks but one team that might call New York Rangers GM Chris Drury about the availability of Laff is the Montreal Canadiens.

Yvon Pedneault of TVA Sports reports that Habs GM Jeff Gorton has contacted his former team about a Alexis Lafreniere trade.

Pedneault does not mention in his piece on what the Canadiens would offer up for Lafreniere.

Lafreniere, 21, who hails from Saint-Eustache, QC, is a suburb of Montreal and the Habs would love to get their hands on local talent.

A change of scenery is needed for Laff and Montreal would seem to be the perfect landing spot for Lafreniere to change things around.

What fans are saying about a Alexis Lafreniere trade to Montreal

If he was available on the trade market, I would prefer Montreal to wait until the off-season to evaluate his value. Also, see what the Florida pick turns out to be and what the competition looks like in acquiring him. My #1 concern is his foot speed, and how he would react to coming to a market like Montreal. It is not for everyone.

I definitely want him if we can do it without giving up a 2023 first rounder maybe we can give our 2024 first and Josh Anderson. Anderson is a player that would fit Gallants style of play and maybe we can throw in a prospect like Mallioux or Joshua Roy that may be a big package but I would do it for Lafreniere he’s going to be good and we need wingers.
